All, Create, Upcycle

I love free stuff!

I might have a problem.

You’d be surprised how much free crap you get get on social media and Craigslist. I think getting free stuff is the epitome of resourcefulness. Bartering is the next best thing.

You have to be careful not to become a full on hoarder. It’s a tightrope to walk, but it’s possible.

Here are some of the cool things I’ve scored lately for free:

Free Garden Materials

Hello free garden shit! If you scan the groups, you can come up on some sweet deals like these. I used tons of this for my plant sale, it came in real handy!

Ton of pots in all sizes, seed starting trays, wooden trellis

Free Lumber

I’m not in the position to fund every project that I want to do – I have to pick my projects wisely. Anywhere I can save money by using free or recycled materials, I consider that a big win!

Last spring I picked up a load of free deck lumber in my local community. I used it to build raised garden beds. I hope to do this again this year!

Bartering for plant starts

I gave away some kid items my son had outgrown. I posted the stuff in my local Buy Nothing group. The woman who I selected to receive the free stuff messaged me and said she didn’t like free things – she preferred to give something in return. Then she asked my favorite question of all time, “Would you like some plant starts?” Um… hell yes, I would.

I ended up with Berry Starts (which are growing in the greenhouse now!) and horseradish! I used to have horseradish and I love using it in fresh bloody mary’s and in steaksauce.

King Size Headboard

I know, it’s super ugly. But wait until you see the upcycle makeover I gave it!

This headboard was posted for free on facebook, and I scored it within a week of posting.

In summary, I love me some free stuff!
